Joey’s Hot Dogs *
Urbanspoon’s ranking algorithm is a little too simple for me. Currently the #1 restaurant in my area is an Italian Ice place. I’m sure it’s good, but it’s not where I’d go for a meal. And for quite a while, Joey’s Hot Dogs has been mocking Adam and me with a consistently high rating. But I didn’t want to go there because, well, it was inside an Exxon that I can’t stand. Once the owner of this franchise leased a dedicated space in Innsbrook, I knew it was only a matter of time before we gave it a try.
The location is cozy & lively. The owner gave us good ordering advice (“Most people order two all the way, the second thing they order is another one.”). Adam and I resisted that upsell… Adam had two “all the way” (a hot dog with chili, onions, and mustard) and I defied the frankfurter gods by skipping the mustard. They were delicious and, sure enough, Adam ponied up for one more for each of us. Three dogs, a side, and a drink each set Adam back about $20. Seems like a lot for what you get, but it’s in line with, well, every other lunch spot in the West End. And it was delicious. We might have a new spot for our occasional bonus lunch.
Location note: Both Urbanspoon and the Joey’s Hot Dogs website show his location as the Exxon on Ridgefield, but he is indeed open at the Innsbrook Shoppes at Broad and Cox.
Lunch Topics: the new WoW expansion, D&D, how adding a third person to lunch dramatically changes the conversation dynamic.
