House of Vietnam
We love Vietnamese food, there is no ifs, ands, or buts about it. This week we hit our fifth such establishment (1, 2, 3, 4) with House of Vietnam. A favorite spot of our boss’s boss and Ethan’s step-father. I’d been there at least half a dozen times for lunch too. Once with my co-blogger the last time we tried this thing. So expectations were high.
While I considered something I had not tried before, Ethan went straight to the com tấm. A bed of broken rice covered in fresh veggies, a side of nước chấm and your meat of choice. Picking something different suddenly seemed less appealing. He ended up with the favorite grill (variety pack of pork, beef and chicken) and I with the Saigon barbecued beef.
Both meals were fantastic. The proteins weres hot, perfectly seasoned and paired nicely with cool veggies and warm rice. Drenched in nước chấm it was a perfect meal for our midweek doldrums. Where the food is top notch, the actual restaurant is nothing to write home about. It is poorly lit, in what I’d guess is supposed to be atmosphere, but instead feels like a cave. Nothing about it says full restaurant experience, but if you are there for that you will be left wanting. The service is great and the food is yummy. Go to House of Vietnam for those alone.
